Suzuki "Eiger" ATV Recalled for Safety Concern
Suzuki Motor Corporation has determined that the Eiger automatic ATVs were produced with an internal manufacturing flaw. This flaw could cause the crankshaft to break during operation. A broken crankshaft will interrupt power transfer from the engine to the transmission and the drive wheels, leaving the driver stranded away from his or her base of operation.
Consumers should contact their local Suzuki dealer to schedule an appointment for their ATV to be inspected and repaired. Suzuki will replace all Eiger ATVs for a new one if the unit is brought in by January 31, 2002. After that date, they will be offering a free inspection and repair. American Suzuki Motor Corporation will notify consumers directly about this recall.
Fusion 35 speed controllers (shipped with Corona electr Recalled for Injury Hazard
The Fusion 35 motor speed controller may not operate properly, due to a weakness in a batch of integrated circuit (IC) chips. The (IC) chip can become hot and damage the controller. In certain instances, a malfunctioning IC chip can cause the helicopter motor to turn on for the several seconds before the power is disconnected, which can damage the helicopter or cause injury to the operator or bystanders.
Consumers should send the Fusion 35 speed controller to Lite Machines for a diagnostic test by the manufacturer. If the unit is defective, it will be replaced free of charge.
2002 Kawasaki "Bayou" ATVs Recalled for Injury Hazard
The rear wheel hubs, in the case of the KLF220 and KLF300-B, and the front and rear wheel hubs of the KLF300-C, are held to their respective axles by a castellated nut, that is secured to the axle with a specified torque, then locked in place by a cotter pin. On a limited number of the affected models, the axle nut was not tightened to the proper torque before the cotter pin was inserted. The cotter pin or axle nut failure could cause the hub to come off of the axle shaft, creating the potential for an incident, resulting in injury or death to the rider.
Consumers should contact their Kawasaki dealer to schedule an appointment. The dealer will apply the correct torque to the axle nut. Kawasaki Motor Corporation has notified consumers directly about this recall.
